Children can now experience their first taste of Scouting as young as four years old with the addition of a Squirrels Drey to the Buxted Scouts family. Our littlest ones meet on alternate Saturday mornings and we ask that parents come too and join in the fun.

We’ve wasted no time in introducing our Squirrels to the great outdoors, with sessions on camping, campfires, and campfire songs as well as nature, science, art and storytelling. All done in a pretend and playful way so that when they’re old enough to do it for real with Beavers, they’re a bit more prepared and know what to expect.

Sessions always have a theme and are age-appropriate with a little learning and a lot of enjoyment through silliness, play and regular breaks. Outings away from the hut and special visitors keep the Squirrels interested and teach them about the world.

Just like their older counterparts, Squirrels are always working towards activity and award badges culminating in an Acorn badge for those who spend a full two years with us. We are grateful to be supported by Young Leaders working towards their Duke of Edinburgh award, and join in group-wide events involving Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers meaning valuable opportunities for all ages to mix together.

Badge Positions

There is a wide range of badges and awards available to young people in Squirrels. This is a diagram showing where each well-earned badge is to be sewn onto your Squirrels Jumper. Please speak to your leader if you are unsure about the exact uniform required as this can vary across groups.
