Joining & Waiting Lists
Scouting is becoming increasingly popular and there is pressure for places.
We are limited by the space we have at the hut and (more significantly) by the number of volunteer leaders we have. We run a waiting list and offer places to children on the waiting list as they become available, and as children reach the age limits. At the moment we occasionally have to run a waiting list for Scouts, more often for Cubs and permanently for Beavers.
The waiting list for Beavers is usually so long that we could open another Beaver colony right away. It can be so long that some children might be cub age before a space becomes available. This is frustrating for the leadership team, for parents and most of all for the children. There is only one solution – we need more volunteers. So if you are frustrated by this and would be willing to give us some of your time please consider joining us and help with our existing colonies or get another one going.
In the meantime, if you would like your child to join any of the sections please contact us using this link. We have a volunteer who runs the waiting lists and who is not a member of any of the leadership teams (so please don’t nag the leaders, they won’t know). Requests to join are reviewed every week or two and dealt with as a batch so please don’t be offended if we are slow in responding. We will let you know as soon as practical whether we have a space for your child and/or where they are on any waiting list. We take new members and move older ones on to the next section after the summer break, Christmas and Easter.
If you have any queries relating to joining or waiting lists please use this link to contact our membership coordinator.
At the prescribed age our young people will move from Beavers to Cubs and Cubs to Scouts. They will also have the opportunity to progress from Scouts to one of the District Explorer Scout Units.
Within the Group we keep each section even in numbers and very often they are full. Moving on between sections is therefore discussed within the leader team and agreed by the Group Scout Leader in the best interest of the Group as a whole.
The existing Scout Troop at Buxted cannot sustain a feed from three separate Cub Packs and so the current policy is that members of the satellite cub pack at Hadlow Down may be asked to join Scouts at one of the nearby Groups if space is not available in Buxted Troop.
Anyone over five years old must complete this form in full (click link) Young Person Form and email it to email@example.com
